This unique approach to education offers an environment geared towards the child and holds an image of children as being strong, powerful, rich in potential, and an integral members of the community. Children should be treated with the same respect as adults – honoring their choices and inspirations. We believe this approach allows your child to reach maximum potential, nourishing their curiosities and inquiring minds, and guides them in growing respect for their own self and the world around them.
Depending on your family’s schedule, our half-day program could be a great fit foryour early educational needs
Our full day program is our most popular program at Little Scholars Academy! It gives your child a well rounded day while you are at work.
Need more hours? Our extended care program gives you more time before and after our school day program.
Hello! I'm Catherine Doberstein, Proud Owner of Little Scholars Academy of Kannapolis.
I’m thrilled to provide an amazing place for children to learn and grow. My first center, Little Scholars Academy of Lake Norman, opened in 2011 in Huntersville, starting with just one class and one student. Through a nurturing environment and hands-on Reggio Emilia approach, it has blossomed into a thriving preschool beloved by the community.
After graduating from the University of Michigan in 2010 with a Bachelor’s in Children and Family Studies, I moved to North Carolina.
While exploring schools to work in, I noticed a lack of independent preschools. The area was saturated with franchised daycares that didn’t fit my philosophy of what early childhood education should be. I knew I wanted to open my own school one day, so I took the leap. Launching Little Scholars Academy allowed me to shape the warm, inquiry-based learning environment I envisioned. Over the past decade, I’ve been privileged to serve so many wonderful families.
At Little Scholars Academy of Kannapolis, We Are Inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach to Early Childhood Education.

Our Mission at Little Scholars Academy of Kannapolis is to Provide a Welcoming, Nurturing, Homelike Environment to Inspire Children Who Are Active Participators in Their Own Learning.
As a former prek teacher, I know how important it is to take care of your staff—that’s a huge reason I decided to leave the field as I was not being taken care of. No one is eager to do their job properly when their own needs aren’t being met or if they don’t feel valued/respected. I love that you value your teachers! I’m excited to see our daughter grow here and excited to watch the growth of the school and community.
We love LSA. Staff is friendly and they genuinely care about the kids. They Partner with parents to ensure their child is thriving. Catherine makes a point to be connected in the community. Kids get to play outside every day, rain or shine, as long as it is safe to do so. My kids get excited to “go to school” every morning. They are learning and growing academically and socially. Highly recommend Little Scholars Academy of Kannapolis.
This is truly a one of a kind school. As an employee of Little Scholars and soon be parent of a Little Scholars student, there’s no other place I would send my little one! For background on myself, I have worked in childcare for a total of 7 years since my first was born. I’ve worked at 4 different schools, and have a degree in Education. In my years working in childcare I’ve seen many different approaches to learning. This school really focuses on making sure the teachers and parents are on the same page.
LSA is an incredible school! I work in the honeysuckle class room and my son attends in the Cherry class we have never loved a school as much as we love LSA. Reggio based has allowed my son the chance to embrace his inner artist since we are project based everything is student led and he has grown so much! Reggio is a loose parts based type of education style that really allows kids to use and learn with real world items and embraces child based learning.
We highly recommend LSA and love having our girls in school there. Our two kids – currently, ages 9 months & 3.5 – love the friendships they’ve made, the skills they’ve gained and that the staff is loving and deeply cares for our kids and our family. The Reggio Emilia model is perfect for our kids who love to explore at their own pace and we love how supported they each are to be their own people. I’d give it more than 5 stars if it was an option!
Little Scholars is arguably the highest quality childcare center around! LSA specializes in the Reggio Emilia philosophy. Their core values are: The Image of the Child, Communication, Community, Environment, & Gratitude. It’s easy to see these core values practiced by all members of the staff on a daily basis. Our children have attended since day 1!
